2014 International Conference on “Animal Liberation, Animal Rights, and Equal Ecological Rights:
Dialogues between Eastern and Western Philosophies and Religions”

With great pleasure, we invite you to attend the 2014 International Conference on “Animal Liberation, Animal Rights, and Equal Ecological Rights: Dialogues between Eastern and Western Philosophies and Religions” on April 26th and 27th 2014 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The conference will be hosted by the Department of Religious Studies at Hsuan Chuang University, Life Conservationist Association and HongShi Buddhist Cultural and Educational Foundation.

I.Purpose
 With outbreaks of various zoonotic diseases such as SARS, mad cow disease, and avian flu during recent years, the needs for  
  comprehensive analysis, assessment and action in animal welfare have never been more critical. This conference will bring
  together leading experts and leaders around the world to present and share their expertise and insights from the disciplines of
  science, law, philosophy and religion, with the aim to prevent and control epidemic spreading without sacrificing animal rights.

II.Topics
 The conference will feature a comprehensive program including keynote speeches, special lectures, podium presentations and a
 roundtable discussion surrounding animal and environmental issues. Four major topics will be covered:
 1.Perspectives and strategies on animal protection in view of zoonotic diseases
 2.Environmental justice and animal protection
 3.Ethics and animal rights
 4.Ethics into action- worldwide animal protection movements 
 Presentations at this conference will be delivered in either Chinese or English, all with simultaneous English-Chinese
 interpretation..

  Paper presentations
  This two-day event will feature more than 30 podium presentations by distinguished speakers worldwide, scholars and activists
  from China, France, Hong Kong SAR (PROC), India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand in alphabetic order. In
  accordance with the four topics mentioned above, the presentations will focus on and facilitate inter-religious dialogues in
  philosophy and animal protection movements.

  Special Issue Roundtable
  To wrap up the conference, we will hold a roundtable discussion with the leading experts, scholars, and activists in the fields of
  animal protection and zoonotic disease control.

  The conference is open to the general public, academics (researchers, faculties, and students), activists, and the media.
