一、主　　旨：針對宗教中普遍存在的性別歧視現象，邀請國際宗教性別研究學者，以及富於前瞻性眼光的宗教代表，召開本次會議以集思廣益，促進宗教性別平等。

The evidence of widespread discrimination against women has been repeatedly found in religious communities. In order to promote gender equality in religions worldwide, this conference attempts to bring together researchers with interest in related areas as well as religious representatives with forward-looking vision on gender issues across countries, hoping that they can find a peaceful and adequate solution for this vexed question via brainstorming at this special assembly.

二、說　　明：
（一）大多數宗教往往在其教義或儀軌之中，灌輸男尊女卑思想，成為建構性別平等社會的最大絆腳石。因此亟須客觀而深入地研究各宗教性別歧視的現象與原因，並探討其改善方針。
（二）爰將本次大會主題，訂為：「宗教文化與性別倫理」。
（三）已邀請歐洲、美洲、澳洲、亞洲等，來自美國、加拿大、澳大利亞、英國、日本、印度、荷蘭等國家與國內的宗教性別研究學者專家，共聚一堂，召開2007「宗教文化與性別倫理」國際學術會議。
（四）本次大會，期能達成以下效益：
1.藉由學術交流與理性溝通，讓學者與宗教人士嚴謹地討論各宗教中有關性別倫理的教義與規範，以及各宗教性別倫理相關歷史與現況。
2.讓各國宗教界的性別平等運動，獲得充分的經驗交流。一方面讓與會國家的宗教學者與宗教人士，了解台灣宗教性別權益促進工作的進展，一方面也可以吸收與學習歐美宗教性別平權的理念與實務經驗，作為政府與宗教團體日後規劃「宗教性別平權」工作之方針，提升我國促進宗教性別平等之相關工作。

The idea that “men are superior to women” or “women are inferior to men” prevails in the doctrine and rituals of most religions around the world, which makes religious groups become a tremendous obstacle in the process of constructing a society with gender equality. Therefore, it is really imperative for us to carefully examine the phenomenon of sex-discrimination in different religions around the world and precisely ascertain the reason why this exists. Hence, the theme of this conference is entitled “Religious Culture & Gender Ethics”. Moreover, scholars and experts in religion and gender studies from the U.S., Canada, Australia, Britain, Thailand, India, and Taiwan are invited to present research papers or deliver keynote speech on the theme of this conference. 

 2. To allow the participants to share their thoughts and experiences in gender equality movements advocated in religious communities around the world. With a full exchange of ideas and opinions, not only can the overseas scholars and experts understand the progress and current status of this movement in Taiwan, but Taiwanese participants can also learn some valuable lessons from the overseas scholars. With these new viewpoints of gender equality in religion, both government and religious groups may also gain deeper insight into this issue, and hopefully, such insight will help them frame future policies regarding gender equality in religions accordingly.

六、主題演講人簡介
（一）費蘭札教授（Professor Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza）：國際知名學者，聖經詮釋與女性神學開創先鋒，刻任職哈佛大學神學院。是第一位獲選為聖經協會(Society of Biblical Literature)主席之女性，於2001年贏得全美藝術與科學學術獎章。

　　　講　題：Religion, Gender, and Change: A Critical Feminist Exploration　宗教、性別和改變——由批判女性主義觀點探討

　　Harvard University Professor Dr. Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza is an internationally recognized scholar in the area of Biblical interpretation and feminist theology. She is the Krister Stendahl Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. Her teaching and research focus on questions of Biblical and theological epistemology, rhetoric and the politics of interpretation, as well as on issues of theological education, radical equality and democracy. She was elected as the first woman president of the Society of Biblical Literature and has served on the editorial boards of major Biblical journals and societies. In 2001, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her published work includes “In Memory of Her”, which has been translated into 12 languages; “Jesus and the Politics of Interpretation”; and “Wisdom Ways: Introducing Feminist Biblical Interpretation”. 

（二）慈喜法師（Mettanando）：泰國比丘 , 出家前是一位醫生。畢業於朱拉隆功（Chulalongkorn）大學，牛津大學與哈佛大學，並在漢堡大學獲得博士學位。目前擔任聯合國「世界和平宗教大會」祕書長的佛教事務特別顧問。曾著有〈釋迦牟尼佛是否是個男性主義者〉，為佛門女性仗義執言。

　　　講　題：The First Council and Suppression of the Nuns　第一次結集與對尼眾的壓制

Dr. Mano Mettanando Laohavanich is one of the most outstanding international figures in the Buddhist World. He is well known for his writing and his unique interpretation of the Tipitaka, the canonical literature of Buddhism. After graduating from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, he went to Oxford University and Harvard Divinity School for advanced studies in Medical Ethics, and finally earned his doctorate from Hamburg University.
