Dear Venerable Chao-hwei,
Thank you so much for making it possible for me to watch the award ceremony today.
May I offer my hearty congratulations, not only on the award of the Niwano Peace Prize today, but also on your speech in which you spoke so powerfully, not for Buddhism or any particular religion, but for the rational and ethical foundation of all religions, and of course, of all sound secular ethical views as well.
I also appreciate your strong words on behalf of women, and against those who have used religious texts as a justification for keeping women in an inferior position, and for condemning people on the grounds of their sexual orientation or unconventional gender identity.
Apart from your speech, I enjoyed seeing the photos of you working with others for justice and to reduce suffering, for all sentient beings.
You are indeed a very worthy recipient of this distinguished award.
With best wishes
